Hands up – we made a mistake.
Now – we – as six women in the office and 120 as a wonderful therapist team – believe in our ability to think clearly with the best interests of women in mind. The last thing that Return to Glory stands for is to perpetuate the constant stress on women to be judged on how they look and to have to adher to some kind of beauty norm.
So it came as a surprise to us when our last email offended one of our loyal clients. So much so she took the pain of writing an email to highlight our error. Unwittingly – which could also be termed as unthinkingly – we had a strap line of ‘Get that Beach Body You’ve Always’s Dreamed Of’. Our clients message:
Suggesting to women in particular that they should prepare to go to the beach by getting a “beach body” only serves to reinforce the message that we go to the beach and put on beachwear in order to be looked at.
Everyone in the office cheered. I myself, about to have a baby in 4 weeks time and dreading already the media barrage of ‘how to be like Victoria Beckham again within 2 weeks of giving birth’ couldn’t believe we’d just done it too.
So – hands up – big sorry – and an honest thank you to our client for pointing out our genuine mistake. And for getting everyone in the office to read this.
